More About Schuckers on the Rio Dulce

Just found the "Schucker Blog" site and read the blog about 4
Schuckers on the Rio Dulce and posted the following: As of Jan 29,
2009 Three of those "Rio Dulce Schuckers" have managed to escape the
confines of the river and the EASY life there and are now headed
north. Pearl (1977 - 436), DriftWood (1978 - 440) and Skeeter (alias
AT Last - 1979 436) are in Northern Belize and heading up the Mexican
Coast to Isla Mujeres. Who says Schuckers' don't go anyplace are
wrong: DriftWood (Eric & Carol)has been cruising the Caribbean since
1999, Pearl (Don & Tamar) is on it's second year in the NW Caribbean
and Skeeter is brand new at it! Actually the Skeeter folks (Bill &
Cathy) are sail boat converts who recently purchased their boat on the
Rio Dulce and are heading back to the states for some upgrades and
personnel touches.
If you have questions about this area, cruising the Caribbean in a
Schucker or anything else we may be able to help you with feel free to
contact DriftWood. Remember though, we are cruising and internet
access is NOT a daily (or even weekly at times) happening. Therefore,
if you think we forgot you it may not be the case.

Happy 2009 to all Schucker Owners and those interested in Schuckers. A number of Schuckers have been sold over the winter and I hear new owners are doing great things with their boats. Some of the improvements include , transom doors, fuel tank access ports, new interior arrangements, dingy davits and new electric windlasses.

Interest in the Schucker seems to grow daily. Todays "schuckerboat" membership on Yahoo Groups has grown even larger with ( 342) members. So if you haven't checked in with us there , check out our link on this page and join the fun.

Nov. 08 ....Four Schucker Motorsailors were recently spotted in the Rio Dulce Guatamala. Who says Schucker never go anywhere?

Passage Maker Magazine Covers Schucker

In the December issue of Passage Maker "Winds of Change " the Schucker Motorsailor is described as having a "cult like following".

She's described as having a speed of 7.8 knots under power and a 6 knot speed under sail alone. "Clearly", says the author , "under motor/sailing conditions , the Schucker 440 is a very economical boat to operate."

What the author doesn't tell you is that the Schucker 430s, 436s and 437s have identical hulls as the 440s and should perform equally well.

Schuckerboats Yahoo Grows to Over 300

The Schucker group "schuckerboats" on Yahoo Groups has recently grown to over 300 members. That's particularly interesting since there were only 100 of the Schucker sailboat and motorsailors built.

A number of Schuckers are currently for sale. Join "schuckerboats" by going to the link on the blog and look in the photo section for current for sale boats. Current listing include a number of 40 pilot houses and a 50 foot pilot house sailboat.

Sojourner Visits Canadian Broughtons

During the summer of 2007 Sojourner a Schucker 430 Sailed from the LaConner WA up into the Canadian Broughtons. With a .75 gallon perhour burn rate she made the trip at an estimated 6 miles to the gallon burning only 145 gallons of fuel. Schucker Boats

Hi, I just finished my trip up the East Coast in my Schucker Sojourner. This year we started in Sassafras Maryland and ended up in De Tour Michigan. The boat performed well and did well in the shallow locks of the Erie and the Trent Severen.

The boat with the mast down on Lake Ontario showed its propensity to roll!

The boat now sits after a truck ride West in LaConner WA.
